A day after Aamir expressed his “alarm” and “despondency” over the rise in the acts of “intolerance” in India and disclosed his wife Kiran Rao had voiced desire to move out of the country, the Hindu Sena activists staged vociferous protests against the actor for his remarks.  The police detained at least half of a dozen protesters.

Taking cognizance of security concerns faced by Salman, the city intensified the security outside the actor’s residence. “”We have provided adequate police security to the actor,” DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni said.

Meanwhile, the actor came in for a severe flak from a section of his own film fraternity for his remarks.

Senior actor Anupam Kher, who had earlier led “March for India’ to Rashtrapati Bhavan and met President Pranab Mukherjee in protest against the voices being raised over “intolerance” in the country, came down heavily on Aamir Khan for his comment.

Kher, who had acted with Aamir in “Dil”, “Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin” among others, demanded to know from the latter as how he had changed his opinion about the country after having endorsed the Ministry of Tourism’s Incredible India campaign. “Dear @aamir_khan. When did ‘Incredible India’ become ‘Intolerant India’ for youIJ Only in the last 7-8 monthsIJ #AtithiDevoBhavah,” Kher tweeted.

In a series of tweets, Kher wrote: Dear @aamir_khan. #SatyamevaJayate u talked about evil practices but gave Hope. So even in ‘Intolerant’ times u need 2 spread Hope not Fear. ...Presumed country has become #Intolerant. Wat do u suggest 2 millions of IndiansIJ leave IndiaIJ Or wait till regime changesIJ”.
