Advani expresses reservations on NaMo leadership

Even as the BJP on Friday celebrated its historic victory in the lok Sabha election crediting PM designate Narendra Modi for spear heading the win, party patriarch lK Advani was vocal about his reservations towards the Gujarat strongman’s leadership.

“I think there should be a detailed analysis on this. It needs to be assessed as to how much contribution has been made by Narendra Modi’s leadership, RSS and BJP towards the party’s victory,” said Advani.

“Bad governance, corruption and dynastic rules (of Congress) were the three main reasons why BJP won this election. We have won even where we never won before,” Advani said. Advani, who has shared tense ties with Modi all through last year, congratulated him on the phone on the party’s spectacular performance.

Advani was BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in 2009 when it lost to the Congress-led UPA for a second time. However, for the 2014 lok Sabha poll, much against Advani’s wishes the party appointed Modi its PM candidate. Advani had emerged as a vocal Modi critic after he strongly opposed his elevation as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate last September.
