Actress attack case: Cops quiz Kerala superstar

In perhaps a first-of-its-kind development in the history of Malayalam film industry, the Kerala Police on Wednesday recorded the statement of a top actor, superstar Dileep, in connection with the sensational case pertaining to the abduction of and attack against a young frontline actress over four months ago and the alleged attempt to blackmail the actor in connection with it.

The probe team, headed by ADGP B Sandhya, recorded the statements of Dileep, his manager Appunni and director Nadir Shah at the Police Club at Aluva near Kochi for several hours. Before the questioning, Dileep said he was going to record his statement in connection with his complaint over a suspected bid to blackmail him in connection with the attack.

“I don’t have time to subject myself to media trial. I will tell the police and court what I have to say. Some people want to make me an accused (in the actress attack case). I am here to record my statement with the police in support of my complaint. Please don’t distort facts,” the actor said. The questioning that started at 12.30 pm Wednesday had not ended even late at night.

Dileep and Nadir Shah had lodged complaints with the DGP in April after the latter and former’s manager allegedly received telephone calls from one Vishnu, a co-prisoner of Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni, prime accused in the case of attack on the actress, demanding Rs 1.5 crore not to disclose the superstar’s alleged role in a conspiracy behind the incident. But it was later revealed that the phone calls were made by Suni himself.
