Act against land-grabbers: BJP asks Mulayam Singh

Published on:

The BJP on Tuesday asked  Samajwadi Party chief  Mulayam Singh Yadav to initiate action against his party leaders accused of land-grabbing and running illegal businesses. The party  wondered whether it was justified for the SP  to seek votes in the coming assembly polls in the name  of   Akhilesh Yadav, who is  heading a  government "beset with corruption  charges."

Referring to Mulayam's criticism of his party's  Government , the BJP quizzed whether SP has accepted defeat in elections even though a formal announcement of poll early next year was yet to be made.

Addressing a Press conference here, BJP National Secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said Mulayam had openly attacked the Government headed by his son as many as five times since it assumed power in 2012.

Mulayam recently  supported  his brother Shivpal Yadav, a senior Minister in the Government, who had said some party leaders were involved in land-grabbing and other unlawful activities and threatened to resign.

The BJP leader  said  Mulayam should apologise to the people as he had sought votes in 2012 in his name and then made Akhilesh the Chief Minister.

"Are the son's interests above the State's interests for youIJ Why have you not made him resignIJ" he asked Yadav.

He  also sought to know if Mulayam  would take action against SP leaders involved in land-grab and illicit liquor trade as alleged by his younger brother. "I also want to ask him if SP will go to the elections with this unsuccessful Chief MinisterIJ It is clear that SP has conceded defeat even before the election bugle has been sounded,"  Singh said.
