Achchhe Din means looting people: Didi

Published on:

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee continued to fire salvos at the Narendra Modi Government for apparently failing to live up to his “achchhe din” promises and said instead of bringing good days the BJP Government had brought “worst days ever to the people of India.”

Taking a dig at the Centre by equating “achchhe din” with “snatching of people’s money, reduction of bank interests” and robbing Peter to pay Paul, the Chief Minister said "people had enough experience of Achchhe Din and now they wanted it back."

“Achchhe Din means bank fraud where the rich people loot people by taking away their money from the banks and flee and after that the Government realises that money from the people by reducing interests on welfare schemes,” Banerjee told a meeting in North Bengal.

Referring to the reduction of interest in Employee’s’ Provident Fund which had now dipped to 8.5 percent Banerjee said “even yesterday they have reduced the EPF interests,” adding whenever there was a bank fraud or a scam the  Government tried to adjust that by cutting the people’s pocket, she said linking the Rs  11.5 thousand crore PNB fraud and the subsequent drop in interest rates.

Attacking the Centre for repeatedly “working against the interest of the common man and filling the coffers of the rich,” Banerjee said the “inflation is going unchecked, the banks are being looted, people are losing jobs, public sector units like Burn Standard were being closed and

“draconian laws like the FRDI Bill — that aims to give the banks the power to refuse payment to the depositors beyond Rs 1 lakh in case they fail — are being passed.”
