Accused's DNA not found on victims' clothes

The Badaun gangrape-cum-murder case has taken a new turn with the latest forensic report raising doubts that the two girls were raped before murder. The DNA of the accused has not been found on the clothes of the victims, the report from the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad has pointed out.

CBI Director Ranjit Sinha said, “Allegations mentioned in the case do not appear to be prima facie true. Innocent persons accused in the case will be let off as we will produce the facts before the court.” CBI sources said the agency is on the right track with regard to investigations in the case and it will be cracked soon.

The five accused — Pappu, Awadhesh and Urvesh Yadav (brothers) and constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav — will be allowed to get bail as there are no clear evidences against them. They have also been cleared in the polygraph test.

The 90-day period for filing the chargesheet is ending on August 28 and the agency will not oppose if the accused persons apply for bail.

Sources said the CDFD report has been sent to the three- member medical board which has been formed to look into the forensic and medical evidence related to the case. The CBI has asked the board to give its opinion this week after which the agency may file a chargesheet in the case.

The two cousin sisters were found hanging from a tree in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh on May 27 leading to a nationwide outrage against the incident.

The CBI findings so far are in sync with the observations of Uttar Pradesh DGP Al Banerjee, who had claimed that the rape of one of the victims was not confirmed and lure of property could be one of the motives behind the crime. Banerjee had said that a lot of evidence could have been collected immediately had the local police made efforts in right earnest.

The CBI is relying on scientific and forensic evidence as the independent medical board could not exhume the bodies of the victims for fresh autopsy since the graves were submerged due to flooding caused by heavy rains.

The role of the family members and a local politician, who is suspected to have influenced them in accusing the persons named in the FIR, is also under scanner.
