ABVP stages rally at Jadavpur varsity

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) the students’ arm of the BJP on Monday held a rally outside Jadavpur University against what they termed “anti-national activities” by its students who had been “harbouring anti-India elements and indulging in secessionist activities.”  Monday’s rally which saw a minor skirmish between the police and the agitators was in retaliation of another rally organized by the JU students who chanted “Azadi” slogans and alleged “attempts by the ABVP to infiltrate the campus and destroy its academic and free-thinking environment.”  The two sides witnessed a physical showdown late last week when the JUSU students objected to the screening of Vivek Agnihotri’s film Buddha in a Traffic Jam on the campus. After initial consent the authorities had withdrawn permission to screen the film.  FIRs were lodged from both sides but none was arrested in which the ABVP supporters alleged physical assault by the JUSU members and some women students of the university alleged molestation. Meanwhile ABVP leaders on Monday said they would not allow anti-national activities on Indian soil. “These communists have made this place a den of anti-national activities and now they are raising logans in favour of Pakistan even. This cannot be tolerated and they will have to be flushed out. This agitation has been staged for this purpose.”
