ABVP heckles Arundhati Roy at DU meeting

Published on:

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday tried to disrupt a public meeting of writer Arundhati Roy who was called to protest against the alleged growing incidents of police action against students and teachers in Delhi University.

Roy was to address the meeting, along with senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan and DUTA President Nandita Narain among others.

The meeting was held to condemn the increased police presence on the campus and to censure the raid on DU teacher GN Saibaba’s house for his alleged Maoist links. It also took notice of the police action against students who were on hunger strike demanding accommodation for pass-out students of the University.

As the meeting was in progress, ABVP members started raising slogans demanding “exposure” of Saibaba’s alleged Naxal links and also protested against Roy, dubbing her a “traitor”. Police whisked the protesters away as they tried to storm the meeting.
