The All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) will burn the copies of Indo-Bangla land swap deal across the State on Monday to protest against the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government’s decision to go ahead with the controversial land swap deal.
Reiterating its opposition to the Indo-Bangla land swap deal, the students organisation also dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seal the Indo-Bangladesh border within six months and without handing over a single inch of land to the neighbouring country.
Aasu adviser Samujjal Bhattacharyya also demanded the Prime Minister to ensure security of the Indo-Bangladesh border in lines with the Indo-Pak border and said that the anti-national forces including the Islamist militants like the Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Huji, etc. had taken advantage of the porous border and entered the State.
“While the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government had signed the protocol to the Indo-Bangladesh land swap deal without consulting with the people of Assam three years back, the NDA Government is also doing the same thing by deciding to go ahead with the deal,” said Bhattacharyya.
“The BJP had earlier opposed the UPA Government’s decision to the land swap deal. However, after coming to power at the Centre, the party has been trying to establish that it is not possible to seal the Indo-Bangladesh border without the land swap deal,” he said.
“It is a matter of repentance that both the Congress led government and the BJP led government at the Centre had failed to implement the Assam Accord so far even after 29 years of its signing. One does not need the land swap deal to seal the Indo-Bangladesh border as it was a commitment of the Centre in the Assam Accord,” he said.
Bhattacharyya also appealed the NDA Government to seal the Indo-Bangladesh border immediately in the lines with India-Pakistan border and ensure installation of similar security apparatus like the western borders of the country.
