The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday said it would contest the forthcoming lok Sabha polls from 20 States, including Uttar Pradesh, where it would field candidates on all 80 seats.
The candidature of poet-turned-politician and AAP leader Kumar Vishwas in Amethi constituency against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was also likely to be finalised within 15 days.
“The national executive of the AAP has decided to contest the lok Sabha polls in 20 States including UP, where we would contest on all 80 lok Sabha seats,” AAP national spokesman Sanjay Singh told reporters.
On Vishwas’ candidature, he maintained, “Kumar Vishwas has submitted the application with the party for contesting the lok Sabha elections from Amethi. Announcement will be made within 15-20 days after Party’s Parliamentary Action Committee (PAC) releases first list, which includes some name from the State.”
He said the selection of candidates would be done through a process like it was done in the Delhi Assembly elections. “There was no limitation for anyone willing to apply for contesting the lok Sabha elections through the AAP. The deadline for sending application has been fixed as January 15,” he added.
Explaining the process, Singh informed that after the application would be received along with recommendation of 100 local voters, it will be reviewed with the help of District, State committees. Then the names would be sent to party’s PAC for final approval. After the names are finalised, they will be uploaded on official and social networking websites for people’s review.
