'AAP not a factor at national level'

Months after stating that Congress would imbibe certain things of Arvind Kerjiwal-led Aam Admi Party (AAP), Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said he does not see the AAP as a factor at national level in the coming lok Sabha elections.

Accusing it of “running away” from governance in Delhi, the Congress leader said that the new party had got an opportunity to run Delhi for which the Congress had given full support.

“They did not solve any of the problems they said they would solve. Frankly, they ran away,” Rahul told PTI.

“It is one thing to make large statements that we will do this and we will do that. It is totally different to actually run a Government and they found that out. I don’t see the achievements of the AAP Government in Delhi,” he said. To a question whether he considers AAP to be a factor in the polls, he said, “At the national level I don’t think so.”

After the humiliating defeat in Delhi Assembly polls in December last, Rahul vowed to change his party ahead of lok Sabha election when he also stated that his party has learnt a lesson from Aam AAP.

“The Aam Aadmi Party involved a lot of non-traditional people and we will learn from that...and will better it in a way you cannot imagine,” Rahul has said then while addressing media in December 2013.
