The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that Delhi University (DU) is deliberately delaying the elections to the Governing Bodies (GB) of the Delhi Government colleges because it does not wants any AAP member to become chairman of GB of any of these college.
"In the last one and half years the Delhi government has constantly been pressurizing the university to formulate a governing body as soon as possible so that the students may benefit from the body and the paused work of development can be started soon," said Sanjeev Jha , AAP MlA from Burari.
He said that although the decision of the formation of governing body was taken three months back but the university has not yet started the process as it does not want any AAP member to become its chairman.
"Before the AAP governance in Delhi, any member from the ruling party in Delhi used to be the Chairman of the governing body of the Delhi University but now because it is AAP who wants to work for the people, the university has planned for election to have its new chairman and not only this but they are also putting pressure through the vice chancellor's office so that anyone from AAP should not be the chairman for the university," said Jha.
"Although the meeting requires every member to be present in the meeting and if anybody is absent the meeting is postponed but if one third members are present then the elections must take place but to surprise they are trying their level best to avoid the elections everytime with lame excuses," he added. He alleged that the Vice-Chancellor of the DU Yogesh Tyagi is trying really hard to avoid the election by threatening the officers and Principals.
"The GB in Delhi government colleges has become a matter of political tussle. The university administration must enforce the university rules and regulations without any side," said Rajesh Jha, Executive Council of DU.
AAP MlA Sanjiv Jha has alleged that he political game may spoil the education system in the university and so he urged to have a fair election process. University officials cannot be reached for their comments.
