A "very strong nexus" between the media, businessmen and politicians was ruining the media, AAP national secretary Pankaj Gupta said echoing a view expressed by his party convener Arvind Kejriwal recently. Gupta, who is in the Goa to oversee State party affairs said that a law to keep journalism in check was necessary.
"See, we have discussed this and perhaps everyone knows that there is a very strong nexus. Media is controlled by business, business is controlled by politicians," Gupta said. He said that the media was ignoring the "positive" achievements of his party and should instead aim for "balanced" coverage instead of focussing only on the negative elements. "The AAP has a Government in Delhi which is doing a lot of positive things. How many of you have shown thatIJ No one shows that. Why notIJ That is our main question," he asked.
He insisted that there were positive elements and achievements to the AAP story, than just the negative ones and that media had focussed on. "There is no balance. I would say show everything… Show all the positive, show all the negative, people will decide," Gupta said.
The national secretary's comments come a few days after AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal criticised a large section of the media for running what he said was baseless stories and even advocating public trials of erring media platforms. When asked, Gupta said that the AAP would look into whether they could come up with a law to control errant journalism. "I don't think this law comes under the Delhi Government, it is a part of the Central law. I am not aware. But since you have raised it when i go back I will definitely look into it".
