Aadhaar cards seized from Rohingya Muslims in Jammu

The worst fears of security experts warning against the mushrooming growth of illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh here in the city of temples have once again come true with the recovery of fake State subject certificates, voter ID cards, Aadhaar and ration cards from the temporary shelters of Rohingya Muslims camping in Jammu.

The fact that these immigrants have penetrated the State machinery has already raised many an eyebrows in the security establishment of the State as well.

The startling revelation has also raised question marks over the working of the State Government Departments, which had failed to detect the fake documents or deliberately connived with these border crossers at the behest of their political sympathisers who wanted to resettle them with the sole purpose of changing the demography of Jammu region.

These vital documents were seized by the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Simrandeep Singh, during surprise raids in Belicharana area on the outskirts of Jammu.

The surprise raids were conducted after he received complaints where it has been alleged that some of these Rohingya Muslims have managed to acquire valid voter ID cards, Aadhaar cards, ration cards and even State subject certificates.

Speaking to The Pioneer, Deputy Commissioner Simrandeep Singh confirmed, “After receiving complaints I myself inquired and visited the house to find out the facts as the matter seemed very serious.” Deputy Commissioner said, “The allegations were confirmed based on which we have deputed different teams to scan their documents. He said they would also scan their databases to weed out these illegal immigrants.

Sensing that more trouble may lie in store if proper verification of these immigrants was not conducted at the earliest, the district authorities in Jammu have already set up different teams comprising revenue officials, police men, election commission and Consumer Affairs Department staff.  These teams have been mandated to scan the documents of these illegal immigrants to rule out the possibility of misuse of valid documents by some anti-national elements.

According to official sources these illegal immigrants have been camping across more than two dozen localities in and around Jammu.

Most of these illegal migrants have been found using mobile networks as well raising suspicions how they have managed to register themselves with the service providers.

According to State Home Department records more than 5,000 Rohingyas have been camping here in Jammu region for past several years.

Most of these immigrants have been living near vital security installations, Army camps and other important Government offices along the bypass road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier sought detailed report from Jammu & Kashmir Government on this grave issue. Jammu based political parties have been spearheading a sustained campaign against these illegal immigrants and had also warned them to ‘Quit Jammu’.
