A student from Tamil Nadu who boards a Delhi Metro train this week will do more than sightsee. She will join a Government effort to help young Indians learn how the rest of the country lives.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met an 84-member delegation from the Central University of Tamil Nadu at the Delhi Secretariat. The group is in the Capital under Yuva Sangam Phase VII, part of the Government of India’s “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative. The delegation includes students and faculty coordinators. It is visiting Delhi from October 26 to November 1.

The Chief Minister said the young visitors’ presence reflected the strength, energy, and aspirations of India’s youth. She said programmes such as Yuva Sangam let young people from different states understand each other’s cultures, traditions, development journeys and lifestyles. This promotes cultural exchange and strengthens mutual trust, respect and national unity.

She called Yuva Sangam an excellent example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”. The initiative lets young people travel to other states, learn about their culture and development, see innovation and governance, and experience the lives of people elsewhere in the country.

She said India’s true strength lies in its diversity. Different languages, cuisines, art forms and lifestyles enrich the national identity. When young people travel between states, they exchange ideas and build lasting friendships and cooperation.

The Chief Minister spoke of Tamil Nadu’s civilisational heritage, literature, art and knowledge traditions. She said the state has made an unparalleled contribution to education, science, technology and industry. She expressed confidence that the young visitors represent its heritage and achievements.

Their stay in Delhi, she said, will let them experience the Capital’s cultural diversity, development initiatives, governance system and community life up close. Their own experiences and ideas will make the interaction more meaningful.

The Chief Minister invited the students to experience Delhi’s modern transport system, including the Metro network, electric buses and the new EV policy. She also asked them to visit the Capital’s historical, cultural and religious sites.

She urged the students to share suggestions on efforts to make Delhi modern, clean, and people-friendly. She asked them to contribute to the national goal of “Viksit Bharat @2047” through their knowledge, skills and innovation. She also encouraged them to share their experiences with families, friends and communities to strengthen ties between states. She wished the delegation an informative and inspiring visit.

The Government of India’s initiative aims to strengthen people-to-people connections among young people from different parts of the country.

It also seeks to give them first-hand understanding of India’s cultural diversity. Participants experience various aspects of culture, development, innovation, governance, and community life.

Those present included Shreyansh Mohan, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education; Professor KP Singh, Nodal Officer for Yuva Sangam Phase VII at the University of Delhi; and Prof. Gurmohinder Singh, Principal of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College. Faculty coordinators from the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Professor Nageshwara Rao D and Shreeansh Mishra, were also there. For the visiting students, the main takeaway is the invitation to explore Delhi’s transport network and landmarks.
