Currently there is a relief from the Government level for the detainees released during corona lockdown. After the parole is over, it will again extend for an 8-8-week basis, although the police are keeping an eye on their activity outside the jail.
On March 23, the Hon’ble Supreme Court had suggested that the number of prisoners should be minimized in the jail due to the Coronavirus. The Bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde and Justice L Nageshwar Rao had asked all the state governments to form a high-level committee and said that the prisoners sentenced less than seven years punishment can be released on parole. After this order, the state government had issued guidelines related to the release of prisoners on parole in all the districts.
About 800 prisoners were released from Aligarh Jail, in which about 750 prisoners were given interim bail while 79 prisoners were released. The prisoners were released in several stages not together. All were released on parole for an 8-8-week basis. Jail officials said that the parole is over for most of the prisoners released on temporary bail. Parole for them extended in the middle. The parole extension is in process for the prisoners whose parole is still valid.
Those prisoners who were released from the district jail will have to appear directly in the jail after the parole is over. Further legal action will be taken if prisoners do not appear on time. The prisoners whose cases are ongoing in the court will have to appear before the court directly after completion of parole.
Jail Superintendent, Alok Singh told that around 800 prisoners were released from the jail during the corona period. The prisoner's parole is being extended. We are prepared in case if the order related to not extending the parole comes from the government level.
According to SSP Muniraj, police are keeping eyes on every activity of the prisoners released on parole so that they will not commit any crime.
