Miscreants looted 700 packets of gold jewellery after hurling a bomb inside the Odisha Gramya Bank campus at Narangarh in Khurda district on Wednesday. Two bank employees were reportedly injured, sources said.

As per reports, five miscreants after reaching the bank premises at 11 am by bikes barged into it while an internal meeting of bank officials was being held.

The robbers created terror inside and asked customers to give away jewelleries and cash. When they tried to enter the hall, where the meeting was going on,  employees closed the entrance door. The miscreants hurled a bomb to break open the entrance door and entered into the meeting room.

They compelled the branch manager to open the strong room by showing revolver and then looted over 700 packets of gold jewellery and cash of Rs 11 lakh from the treasury.

The miscreants resorted to blank firing and snatched away all the gold jewellery packets at gun point from the testing table. However, when the miscreants were trying to decamp, the public obstructed them. But the miscreants fired at a college student, snatched his bike and fled the spot in the bike. The injured student was identified as Biswajeet Parida.

After getting information, police chased the miscreants, but the latter hurled bombs on the police personnel near Dadhimachhagadia square. Then they left their bikes and bags and disappeared in the nearby jungle area. Police are investigating the incident, said Khurda SP D Gochhayat, adding, “We hope we will recover the gold packets and money and arrest the culprits very soon.”
