A delegation of seven Union Ministers on Sunday met Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and demanded action against some Opposition members for what they called unprecedented, extreme and violent acts in the Upper House on August 11 just before it was adjourned sine die.

A memorandum was submitted in this regard to the Chairman. Sources said during the meeting the delegation also referred to marshals being prevented from discharging their duties.

As per the sources, Naidu said that he will examine the matter for deciding on an appropriate course of action. The delegation consisted of Piyush Goyal, Pralhad Joshi, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupinder Yadav, Arjun Ram Meghwal and V Murlidharan. Deputy Chairman Harivansh was also present.

In this regard Naidu also held a meeting with Panel Vice Chairman Sasmit Patra, who was in the Chair when the said incidents took place in the Rajya Sabha.

Naidu on Saturday went to Parliament House to watch the recorded proceedings of the upper house on August 11 when the marshals and a few opposition MPs were seen jostling on the floor of the house. Naidu watched the entire visual recording of the incidents.

Officials of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said legal consultation is being sought to arrive at a decision on how to take action against the MPs who have been caught on CCTVs footage manhandling the marshals, damaging house property and were named in the complaints by two marshals who were injured in the melee.
