A 63-year-old woman was robbed and strangulated to death by some robbers inside her home in East Delhi's Jagatpuri area on Monday afternoon. Preliminary investigation revealed that the entry seems to be friendly and the house was found to be ransacked and robbery appears to be the motive behind the murder.

Robbers decamped with around `4 lakh cash and jewellery worth around `6 lakh from the victim's home. Police said that the deceased was identified as Mohini Gupta, wife of R K Gupta, who runs his jewelry shop in Chandani Chowk. "The incident came to light on Monday afternoon around 2.30 pm, when the victim's maid went to clean the house and found Mohini's body which was lying in a pool of blood.

She raised an alarm for help and made a PCR call and also informed the neighbours about the incident," the officer added. The victim was taken to the hospital where she was declared brought dead.

"After registering the case, police started their investigation but have not found any evidence of forced entry or of any door or window being broken. Victim's family members told the police that a room in the house was given on rent, which was recently vacated after a dispute with the tenant," the officer added.
