6 years of CPM rule ruined State: Kerala BJP chief

Published on:

Last six years of CPI(M) rule has wrecked Kerala and it has led the State to financial ruin according to Kummanam Rajasekharan, former Governor of Mizoram and a chief of the State BJP.

“The people in the State are yet to see any kind of positive action by the CPI(M) and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to pull Kerala out of the quagmire of debt. Each person in the State have a debt of more than Rs 1,00,000 over his head if  finance minister K N Balagopal’s words are any indication,” Rajasekharan said in a statement on Saturday.

He pointed out that though the  Monsoon rains have caused havoc in the State the CPI(M) led administration failed to do anything to mitigate the recurring floods. “The flash floods of 2018 that ravaged the State has become an annual event.

Though Vijayan led an entourage of  comrades, bureaucrats and family members to the Netherlands in 2018 to study the system adopted by that country to mitigate floods, we are yet to come across any action plan by the State Government based on the principles followed by the European Government,” Rajasekharan said.

The BJP leader said that the only work being done by the LDF Government is to blame the Centre for all natural disasters and floods occurring in the State. “They rush to New Delhi at the drop of a hat and demand thousands of crores as solace for flood and landslides. The recent move by the Kerala Government to offer milk and eggs to school students in the State is being funded in full by the Centre. But the Marxists portray it as their innovative scheme,” said Rajasekharan.

He came down heavily on the move by the CPI(M) to clip the wings of Governor Arif Mohammed Khan in the selection of a new vice-chancellor for the Kerala University. “Efforts are on to appoint a party fellow traveller as the vice chancellor instead of any educationist or academician. This is with the intention to bring the institutions of higher learning under the direct control of the CPI(M),” said the former Governor in his statement.

He also lambasted the decision of the Kerala Government to exempt the buffer zone around forest areas to bypass the Supreme Court verdict. “One need not search for more reasons behind the Governmental move as the buffer zone has been encroached by the minority communities,” he said.

The former Governor pointed out that though a self-styled economist like Thomas Isaac was the finance minister of the State for five years, his track record was abysmally poor. “The economist in Isaac performed poorly and this resulted in the State getting caught in a debt trap,” said Rajasekharan.
