Following the nationwide condemnation of the sexual abuse of minor girls in a shelter home a Muzaffarpur and in bid to wipe the dust of embarrassment the Bihar Government on Saturday night suspended six assistant directors of child protection and care unit under the social welfare department. They included the assistant director Devesh Kumar Sharma posted in Muzaffarpur.

While the social welfare Minister Manju Verma refused to step down despite the irregularities and irresponsible attitude of her department and the alleged involvement of her husband in the shelter home episode, the Government has taken action against the junior level officials said to be small fish.

The Government notification issued by the director of the department  said the official did not act or took action against the NGO against which the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) had reported adversely highlighting the condition of the inmates of the shelter home. The notification accused him of causing embarrassment to the department and the Government due to his inaction.

Other assistant directors suspended are Ghanshyam Ravidas (Araria), Kumar Satyakam (Madhubani), Alok Ranjan (Bhojpur), Gitanjali Prasad (Bhagalpur) and Seema Kumari (Munger).
