A holy pond for Hindus and community houses for Buddhists are among the five historical sites in Nepal that were restored recently with the help of Indian Government. India provided a financial grant of NR (Nepali Rupees) 2.24 crore for the restoration of these five sites in lalitpur district of Nepal that are centres of cultural importance to the local community.
last week, Indian ambassador to Nepal, Ranjit Rae, inaugurated five historical-cultural sites — Nagbahal tole Suddhar Cheen, Kul Devta Agan Ghar, Bhindya lachi Chapa, lukushi Pati and the Ganga Pokhari — in lalitpur.
The Ganga Pokhari at Bungmati village is considered to be auspicious and sign of good luck and prosperity for the local Nepalese population. While the pond is source of drinking water round the year, its water is also used for bathing rituals for God Rato Machhindra Nath.
The other four sites are community houses for the Buddhists situated around the Hiranyabarna Mahabihar (the golden temple). These community houses are used for training, health clinic, socio-economic, educational activities apart from being used as a common meeting place.
