In a gruesome incident, five girls of a family were murdered in their sleep on Wednesday night in a village in Gaya. The incident has sent a shockwave in the State.
All the girls, aged between 8 and 16 years, were the daughters of three brothers and were sleeping in a room when an unknown intruder reportedly barged into it and killed all of them. The girls’ brother, mysteriously, were left unharmed by the killers.
The incident has happened at Dullibigha village under Khizarsarai police station, some 35 kms away from Gaya district headquarters.
“This gruesome incident has happened in the Dullibigha village probably in a land dispute. The investigation is going on to solve the mystery as who and how he entered into the room”, said Gaya, Superintendent of Police, Nishant Tiwari.
A cartridge has been found from the spot but no gunshot injuries were found on the dead bodies. The attackers could have also used some sharp-edged weapons to kill the young girls.
The victim girls have been named as Sweetie Kumari (14), Reshma Kumari (12), Joolie Kumari (15), Manisha Kumari (12) and Amisha Kumari (8).
The male members of the family reportedly were not present in the house on the fateful night. The family, said the police, has a running land feud with distant relatives who live as neighbors for long.
“We are still investigating the case but prima facie this appears to be an outcome of a land dispute,” said a local police official Ashok Kumar. He also said that the police were waiting for the return of the absent parents for further action.
“They killed all my granddaughters”, charged Moti Raj Devi, grandmother of those killed girls. The family has named distant relatives as suspects. Sashi Bhushan Singh, father of one of murdered girl, said that they must have executed this heinous crime as we’re locked in a land dispute with them for long.
All the top district police officials visited the village and started investigation to unravel the mysterious incident after taking a named accused person in the custody.
A team of Forensic Science laboratory (FSl) has also been pressed into police investigation to get any lead in the case, said SP, Nishant Tiwari.
This gory incident has happened when the State Government has launched many welfare measures for girls and their empowerment.
