After crowned third time as Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi in his first speech said that six crore Gujaratis are my heroes. On Monday Gujarat BJP declared that primary membership of the State BJP unit is almost 44 lakhs, which means over 7 per cent Gujaratis are direct members or the party.
If four nearest relatives of these members are believed to back BJP, the saffron party would have solid support of more than 20 per cent of the State’s population.
“We have prepared detailed data-base of these members in soft and hard copies,” said Gujarat BJP spokesperson IK Jadeja. Prior to 2009 lok Sabha election, approximately 24.70 lakh members were registered. Five years down the line, the saffron party in the State enjoyed huge followings irrespective of cast, creed, religion and region, said a senior State BJP leader.
