Four civilians were injured after suspected militants belonging to the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) triggered two grenade blasts at different locations in Assam’s Chirang district on Sunday.
Chirang district Superintendent of Police Ranjan Bhuyan said that four people were injured during the two incidents. “The injured have been shifted to local hospital and their condition is out of danger,” said Bhuyan.
Chirang is one of the four districts of Assam that forms the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD) along with Kokrajhar, Baksa and Udalguri. The NDFB’s anti-talk faction led by its commander IK Songbijit has a sizable presence in the BTAD region. The outfit has been carrying out extortion and kidnappings in BTAD forcing the Assam police to launch an operation against the militants recently.
