Slamming the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government for its failure on various fronts. NCP chief Sharad Pawar said here on Wednesday that as many as 391 distressed farmers had committed suicide during the last five months in the state, a staggering 3,152  children had gone missing during the period and that communal riots were taking place in a areas where the ruling alliance partners had no influence.

Speaking at the NCP’s foundation function here, Pawar came down heavily on the BJP government both in the state and at the Centre for its failure to keep his promise to the farmers. “ I went to Khandesh ( north Maharashtra) recently. There, the farmers brought to my notice that they were keeping the cotton produced by them as they were not remunerative price for their produce. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the farmers’ income would be doubled. But how do yo explain the fact that as many 391 farmers had committed suicide during the past five months”.

“Similarly, from January 23 to May 23, as many as 3,152 children had gone missing in various parts of the state.

Alluding to the recent communal riots in Kolhapur, Akola and Amalner, Pawar said: “The riots are taking place in towns and cities where the ruling alliance partners have no base. It is the responsibility of the ruling alliance partners to protect the people in these areas” Castigating the Narendra Modi government for its utter failure to bring ongoing riots under control, Pawar said: “There have been riots in Manipur for the past 45 days.

An officer based in Manipur has gone on record saying that the situation there is very grim. I cannot say for sure whether we are citizens of this country, because the Government is not paying any attention to the goings-on in Manipur which is located right next to China”.

Expressing his serious displeasure over the Narendra Modi government’s failure to invite President Droupadi Murmu for the inauguration of India’s new Parliament building, Pawar said: “Had the Government called the president to the function, she would have inaugurated the new Parliament as per protocol”.
