A court in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Thursday sentenced a 29-year-old man to 30-year imprisonment and slapped on him a fine of Rs 15,000 for raping a three-year-old girl after abducting her from the street-side where she was sleeping with her mother.
PK Haneefa, District and Sessions Judge, Manjeri sentenced Muhammad Jasim of Chiramangalam, Parappanangadi in Malappuram district to 30-year rigorous imprisonment for four different crimes associated with the brutal rape. He also asked the Government to extend a financial assistance of Rs 100,000 to the child.
The judge awarded to Jasim three-year jail term for abducting the girl, 10 years for raping her, seven years for serious sexual offence against a girl-child and 10-year imprisonment for infliction of serious physical injuries on the victim. However, judge Haneefa allowed the punishment to run concurrently for 10-years.
Jasim had committed the crime of brutally raping the three-year-old girl-child, member of a family of nomads, on the night of March 4, 2013 when she was sleeping on the street-side with her mother at Thrikkandiyur, Tirur in Malappuram district. He abandoned the girl at a vacant lot after committing the crime.
The girl was found in a serious condition with high fever and with ants crawling all over her body from near the toilets of the Mahila Samajam building at Thrikkandiyur the following morning.
It was after several weeks of treatment at the Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode that she had come back to normal state of health.
Jasim, who had gone into hiding immediately after committing the crime, was taken into police custody from Kozhikode two days later. The police said that Jasim, a drug addict, had been a regular nuisance to nomadic women and children who chose street-sides for taking rest at night.
