Gandhigiri’ of three Russian nationals, who were lodged in Guwahati Central Jail, have forced the jail authorities here to seek advice from the State Government and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kamrup district on measures to deal with the situation.

The three Russian nationals were arrested by Guwahati Police last Wednesday on charges of fraudulently collecting money from people. The court of the CJM, Kamrup initially remanded them in five-day police custody. However, the trio had been sent for judicial custody on Sunday last after expiry of their police remand.

The trio has refused to eat jail food since Sunday last saying that they are innocent and should be released immediately. They have also refused to accept medical attention, said senior officials of the Guwahati Central Jail.

“We have shifted the three to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday after their repeated refusal to eat food and accept medical attention in the jail. We have intimated the matter to the Inspector General of Police (Prison), the CJM, Kamrup and the Kamrup Deputy Commissioner seeking advice on how to deal with the situation,” said a senior official of the Guwahati Central Jail.

“They were admitted in the medicine unit of the GMCH and the doctors stated their health condition as stable till Tuesday,” officials said.

The trio - Denis Rozkov (43), Alexei Muratov (35) and Andrei Kilin (45), came to Assam on tourist visas. They were arrested with three other Indian nationals based on a complaint that they were illegally collecting money from the people and were giving motivational lectures to lure prospective customers to invest through their website.

Police said that a detailed interrogation of the six revealed that they were fraudulently collecting money through their website “www.Mmmindia.In” promising people with spectacular returns on their ‘donations’ for charitable work.

The three other persons arrested with the Russians are Dinesh Kotian (44), Dinish Balan (40) of Mumbai and a local Nabajit Das (40). These three has, however, no problem with the foods or medical care inside the jail.
