Three young Goan women footballers touring Nepal will reach Goa late on Monday night, a top Goa Football Association official has confirmed. The three members who were part of an Indian Under-14 girls’ team — Ashika Gadekar (goalkeeper) and Sushmita Jadhav (forward) and Soumya Mukund (forward) — were on the field during a practice session when the earthquake struck.
“They are expected to land tonight. Obviously we are relieved. They are promising footballers,” GFA president Elvis Gomes told The Pioneer. The trio is currently in Delhi.
The three footballers were evacuated by a National Disaster Response Force team, which has been engaged to conduct rescue efforts in Nepal, which was rocked by a powerful earthquake on Saturday. The entire team on Sunday arrived in New Delhi in the wee hours of Monday.
They had left for Nepal last month along with the rest of the team to participate in an Asian Football Confederation tournament at the Dasarath stadium in Kathmandu.
