There’s good news for the Kannada film lovers in the national Capital. For the first time, a three-day Kannada film festival showcasing latest critically acclaimed films and blockbusters is being held from April 16. Nine contemporary Kannada films will be screened at the festival jointly organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Karnataka Department of Information and the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.
The films that will be screened are Thithi (National Award for Best Kannada Film 2016), Harivu (National Award for Best Kannada film 2015), Mr & Mrs Ramachari (Biggest box office hit in 2015), Naanu Avanalla Avalu (National Award for Best Actor to Sanchari Vijay), Vidaaya (Winner of two state film awards).
The others are 1st Rank Raju (Comedy hit of 2015), Rangitaranga (which continues its box office run for the ninth month), Krishna leela (a hit from of 2015), Shivalinga (biggest hit of 2016, so far).
Three films per day will be screened over three days at the Siri Fort Auditorium 2, KCA chairperson SV Rajendra Singh Babu said.
“Karnataka has a great tradition of heritage and culture. We are producing nearly 200 films every year. But they hardly reach to movie buffs outside the State. We want to reach out to not only to Kannadigas outside Karnataka but also non-Kannadigas. For this, we will make the festival a regular affair,” Babu, a filmmaker and producer said.
He said that the State Government on its part has taken a string of measures to encourage film industry and provide entertainment at an affordable cost. These include, plans to construct 30 Janata cinema theatres at various locations in the state, 100 per cent tax free on entertainment movies, hike in national awards for movies to name a few, he said.
