2G: Swamy moves SC against shifting CBI officers

Published on:
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday filed petition in Supreme Court against the shifting of senior officers from the 2G and Aircel-Maxis scam probes. In his petition, Swamy alleged Joint Director Ashok Tewari, supervising the probes was shunted out and this move would dilute the ongoing probe against former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case.
Urging for the intervention of Apex Court, as it was monitoring the probes, Swamy alleged that another senior officer Additional Director RK Dutta was also expected to be shifted from the 2G probes due to heavy pressures. Tiwari, head of the 2G probes and anti-corruption unit was recently shifted as head of MDMA (Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency), a redundant unit in CBI formed to probe into the wide conspiracies on the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.
In his petition Swamy said probe on the role of Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case was initiated after these two officers took action.
The BJP leader said even after Supreme Court’s directions, for three years CBI did not acted on the role of the former Finance Minister on the points raised in his petition. “However the two concerned officers, the aforesaid Joint Director Ashok Tewari and the Additional Director CBI RK Dutta opined that the issues raised by the Applicant had not been properly investigated and there was need to further investigate these aspects. Accordingly the Competent Authority in the CBI ordered a further investigation into these aspects,” said Swamy in his petition.
In the chargesheet against former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran, CBI had mentioned on the illegalities committed by Chidambaram and declared that the probe was going on these aspects. Former Finance Minister was interrogated by CBI, after Supreme Court sought progress report on the matter.
