Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Monday sent a legal notice to ex-CAG Vinod Rai over his allegation that the MP tried to influence the auditor in 2G issue. Nirupam was responding to the allegation by Rai in his book that the MP along with other Congress colleagues had approached him to avoid indicting former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from the CAG reports.
"Rai has told an outright lie. I never talked to him. I challenge his memory and want to remind him that I never met him," claimed Nirupam, talking to media after sending legal notice. In his book 'Not Just An Accountant', Rai said Public Accounts Committee members Nirupam, Ashwani Kumar and Sandeep Dikshit had applied pressure on him to keep the former Prime Minister's name out of his audit report in the 2G scam.
In the notice, Nirupam's lawyer asked Rai to "tender an unconditional apology" in writing within 15 days of the receipt of the notice stating that imputations made by him against the Congress leader were "baseless, false and concocted".
