The much lauded scheme of 24X7 free power supply to the farmers in Telangana has started coming under fire from various quarters just a week after it was launched by the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Apart from the wastage of electricity, the critics were also arguing that it will lead to alarming depletion of ground water in the State.
Interestingly the main Opposition Congress party was in the forefront of opposing round the clock supply saying it will be against the interest of the farmers. Several top leaders of Congress including State president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and former power Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir have come out saying 10 hour supply of power will be sufficient for the farmers.
After getting feedback that it may lead to depletion of precious groundwater level, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was considering some changes in the scheme. However, he will wait till after the Sankranti festival to discuss the issue with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti elected representatives and the officials of the electricity organisations.
