Tension prevailed in communally sensitive Amroha district following kidnapping of a 22-year-old girl by youths hailing from minority community and subsequent murder of a person. Senior police officers who were camping in the area along with heavy police force including jawans of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), claimed that all efforts were on to solve both the matters. The local police is also taking help of senior citizens of the area to defuse the tension.

On last Saturday, one Dushyant Tyagi, a resident of Peli hamlet of Saidangali in Amroha, lodged a report with the local police in which he claimed that his daughter went with his son Sneh to attend viva test of BA (third year) at JS College in Amroha. When she came out after test in the evening, one Imran, hailing from Ashrafpur area of Saidangali, who was harassing his daughter for a long time, came along with two of his accomplices. They assaulted Sneh, and forcibly huddled the girl inside a Maruti van and abducted her.

The local police registered a case in this regard and started investigation. SP Amroha, Subash Singh Baghel claimed that to recover the girl, two separate teams have been sent to Allahabad and lucknow, but they failed to make any further breakthrough.

In the meantime, another development took place when one Saddam, a local resident passed some objectionable comments over the abducted girl which irked another youth Chiddha, and they both scuffled. However, before the members of both the communities joining in the clash, the cops intervened and shown arrested but Saddam and Chiddha, and booked them under Section 151 of CrPC for trying to breach peace in the area. Reports said that the matter, however, took an ugly turn when on the same night of last Monday, Saddam’s father Mohamed Azeez, who went to his tube-well was attacked with sharp-edged weapons by some unknown persons, who later shot him dead and escaped.

The news Azeez’s death spread like wild fire and members of both the communities came face-to-face, but again timely intervention by the local police saved the day when Baghel and his team members assured that all the guilty would be punished and sent to jail in the matter. They also registered it as a case of murder. Baghel said that heavy police force has been deployed in the area and that the situation was tense but under control. He claimed that Additional SP, Amroha, Circle Officer along with ADM Sambhal were still camping to avert any clash.

Meanwhile, in a separate case at Muzaffarnagar, unidentified assailants shot dead the gram pradhan of Vigyana village in Budhana area on Tuesday. Tazim (40) was asleep, when some miscreants barged into his house and opened fire upon him late Tuesday night. He died on the spot.
