Poll menu

leaders involved Bihar poll campaign had serious problems in choosing food and snacks during their whistle-stop tours across the State. The idea of having traditional meals of ‘rice and dal’ for lunch while airborne was not a practical solution as the meal  could spill out during a flight. “I took green chana..fresh from the field which is nourishing and very good”, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.

No bytes to media

On Sunday morning, media’s attempts to get bytes from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and were futile. Insiders say, RSS was cautious and was watching the TV narratives, which indicated a possible setback to the BJP in Bihar due to Bhagwat’s controversial statements on review of reservation. It was heard that strict instructions were given to all in the RSS to avoid media interactions on Bihar poll verdict.

Caught on Camera

Thanks to television cameras, judges can afford to have the last laugh on politicians known for going back on their statements made in public gaze. Recently Justice JS Khehar of Supreme Court commented that it was common place for persons to say something on television and then deny it. He was responding to an argument by Patidar Andolan leader Hardik Patel who had said that the statement for which Gujarat Police charged him with sedition was denied by the man with whom he was speaking when cameras were rolling. Justice Khehar said, “We see on television, one frame showing somebody’s statement and in another frame he denying it.”

CBI guarded

The CBI is not taking any chances in putting in place a full-proof security arrangement for underworld don Chhota Rajan. CISF jawans have been deployed even at the washroom on the ground floor of the agency’s headquarters  that houses the gangster deported from Indonesia. While CISF Quick Reaction teams have been put in place on the campus apart from the regular deployment of paramilitary personnel to secure the building, the adjacent road in front of the building has also been barricaded and traffic restricted to just the office goers in the area by Delhi police. Even CBI staffers and pedestrians are not allowed to pass through the road without showing ID cards explaining the reasons for movement in the area.

The yoga bug

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi led thousands to celebrate the International Yoga Day in June, the Government seems to have been bitten by the yoga bug. While seven Ministries — including Health, Tourism, HRD and Pharma — have joined hands to organise an international event on yoga in January next year, the Science and Technology Ministry has kicked off a programme exclusively dedicated for promotion of the Indian traditional system. To be known as SATYAM — “Science and Technology of Yoga and Meditation,” the programme will work to strengthen research in the areas of yoga and meditation.

Naval display

Dignitaries and invitees will get chance to have a look next month at the Navy’s sustained indigenisation drive when Navy chief Admiral RK Dhowan hosts the customary ‘At Home’ ceremony on the occasion of the Navy Day. Models of some frontline warships and Scorpene submarine now under various stages of construction in Indian shipyards will be put up on the lawns of the Chief’s official residence in New Delhi on December 4. The President, Prime Minister and host of VIPs including ambassadors of various

countries attend this function. The Navy is building more than 45 warships and submarines within the country and the naval top brass want to highlight this crucial aspect this year.
