The Karunanidhi family may have differences of opinions on various issues. But the party has suspended Karunanidhi’s elder son MK Alagiri for questioning the family patriarch for anointing Stalin as their heir apparent. But the first family of the DMK is unanimous in their support for Narendra Modi, according to M Venkaiah Naidu, former BJP chief. Addressing reporters here on Sunday, Naidu pointed out that both father and son were waxing eloquence on Narendra Modi.
“First it was Karunanidhi who praised Modi for his hard and good work as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The DMK chief complimented the country-wide arduous campaign undertaken by Modi and described him as his dear friend. Now, Alagiri , the estranged son of Karunanidhi has complimented Modi for his excellent track record as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Alagiri said there is a Modi wave all over the country and he welcomed him as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate,” said Naidu.
According to Naidu, these were sufficient proof for the acceptability of Modi as the country’s Prime Minister. “The 2014 lok Sabha election is going to be Anna’s (Tamil for brother) election. More than 40 former generals of the Indian Army have joined the BJP because they were concerned about the security of the country. The Congress has reconciled itself to defeat though the election is more than a month away,” he said.
Naidu blasted the Congress Government for renaming the NT Rama Rao International Airport at Hyderabad as Rajiv Gandhi Airport. “Rahul Gandhi, the prime ministerial candidate of the Congress is trading absurd allegations against the BJP and the RSS because of his ignorance in history. For the Congress all that matters is Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. It looks as if there were no other leaders in the Congress other than these three persons. The Congress is conveniently blacking out the names of Sardar Patel, lal Bahadur Shastri and Subash Chandra Bose. All institutions and establishments in the country are named after Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi,” said Naidu.
Referring to the demand made by the MDMK that there should be a referendum on the ethnic Tamil issue in Sri lanka, the BJP said this has not been discussed in the NDA. “The BJP wants the ethnic Tamil issue in Sri lanka to be resolved within the framework of that country’s Constitution. Whatever Vaiko has told could be his personal opinion and there is nothing surprising in it,” he said. Naidu, who faced a volley of questions on denial of lok Sabha seat to Jaswant Singh, said the media was making a mountain out of molehill.
