Saradha scam major issue in WB polls

Kolkata: The multi-crore Saradha ponzi scam has emerged as a major poll plank in the lok Sabha elections in West Bengal with major political parties like the Congress, BJP and CPI(M) training their guns against the ruling Trinamool Congress. With the CPI(M) demanding a CBI probe into the scam that defrauded lakhs of small investors, the party’s politburo member and former Chief Minister Buddhadeb

Bhattacharjee accused the Mamata Banerjee-run Government of becoming a “symbol” of the Saradha Group which defrauded lakhs in the state. “It is a scam of thousands of crores of rupees. Where has the money gone and to whomIJ Everything will come out. It (TMC) talks about being truthful, but it is G government of lies,” he alleged. The BJP also had no kind words. The BJP leaders allege Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s wife’s Nalini was also beneficiary in the scam.

TMC colluded with chit fund firms: Sonia

Islampur (WB): Hitting out at the Mamata Banerjee Government in West Bengal over the multi-crore Saradha scam, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today charged that it was colluding with chit fund companies which have looted more than 18 lakh people. Sonia’s attack on the West Bengal government comes days after her son Rahul Gandhi targeted the State Government on the same issue. “The Government here colluded with chitfund companies which have looted more than 18 lakh families and ruined them.  Poor people struggle a lot to save money for them and their kids so that they can use it when needed,” Sonia said. Three days ago Congress party vice-president Rahul had attacked the Trinamool Congress Government, saying that it was not taking action against those involved in the multi-crore Saradha ponzi scam and instead trying to save them.

Netaji kin campaigning against each other

Kolkata: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grand nephew and Trinamool’s lok Sabha candidate Sugata Bose is facing tough opposition from his family with over 30 kin jumping in the ring to campaign against him. Sugata, a Harvard University professor, is contesting from Jadavpur constituency where his family members have gone out to campaign against him and support CPI(M) candidate Sujan Chakraborty instead. “Sugato has refused to support the demand for declassification of files relating to the mysterious disappearance of Netaji after which we decided to campaign against him as he has betrayed us and the Bose legacy,” Netaji’s another grand-nephew Chandra Bose said. Along with other admirers of the freedom fighter, around 30 kin of Netaji have come together under the ‘Open Platform for Netaji’.
