Mayawati demands Prez Rule in UP
New Delhi: BSP supremo Mayawati on Friday demanded dismissal of Uttar Pradesh Government and imposition of President’s Rule over “deteriorating” law and order situation in the State. “I want to appeal to the UP Governor and also to the Centre that law and order is very bad in the State and they should seriously think about it. The Samajwadi Party Government should be dismissed and President’s Rule should be imposed in the State,” she told reporters outside Parliament House when asked about the killing of a rape victim in Mathura.
Flag issue: Cong, NCP, TMC get notice
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Trinamool Congress on a PIl seeking to restrain them from using party flags resembling and similar to the Indian National Tricolour.
A bench of justices BS Chauhan and J Chelameswar also sought response from the Centre and the Election Commission on the issue of framing guidelines to restrain parties from imitating the Tricolour.
24K rape cases pending in various high courts
New Delhi: Nearly 24,000 rape cases are pending in various high courts of the country while more than 8000 of them have been disposed of in the last three years, Government said on Friday. As on December 31, 2013, 309 cases related to sexual harassment, kidnapping abduction were pending in the Supreme Court, while 687 similar cases were disposed of from 2011-13 by the apex court. law Minister Kapil Sibal informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that 23,792 cases related to rape were pending in 21 high courts as on September 30, 2012.
lS poll: JD(U) to hold session for strategy
New Delhi: JD(U), which has hitched its wagon to a non-Congress, non-BJP Front after parting ways from the BJP, will hold a two-day brainstorming session beginning on Saturday to finalise its strategy for the next lok Sabha polls.
Bihar is the only State where the party is in power with outside support from Congress and others, while it has minuscule presence in some other States like Jharkhand, Nagaland, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. It has two MlAs in Jharkhand and one each in Gujarat and Nagaland.
