Quota for cancer, AIDS in tech colleges
Chandigarh: Punjab Government on Monday announced one per cent reservation for all cancer and AIDS victims for admission to technical educational institutions across the State. The decision would be implemented from the current academic session, said State Technical Education and Industries Minister Anil Joshi. At the same time, the Minister has made it clear that to get the benefit of reservation, candidates must have to produce the cancer and AIDS related medical documents at the time of admission. Joshi said the step was aimed at giving equal opportunity to victims of these diseases in study as well as to elude them from inferiority complex. Such students would be able to get reservation at the time of admission to all engineering colleges, polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). He said that private technical institutions have been urged to come forward to help victims of AIDS and cancer.
