AgustaWestland seeks 7 more days to reply
New Delhi: AgustaWestland has sought seven more days from the Defence Ministry to respond its notice seeking details about the company’s alleged links with two Indian companies IDS Infotech and Aeromatrix in connection with the VVIP helicopter scandal.
Agusta Westland was scheduled to give its reply by Friday, officials said here on Thursday. In its earlier reply to the first show cause notice by the Ministry, AgustaWestland had denied any wrongdoing in the Rs3,700 crore contract for 12 helicopters.
PCI panel to probe acid attack on scribe
New Delhi: A one-member committee of the Press Council of India will look into the acid attack on a journalist and his family in Maharashtra allegedly because of his reports against illegal sale of gutkha. PCI chief Markandey Katju has appointed the committee of member Anil Aggarwal to “thoroughly investigate” into the matter and submit a report at the “earliest for further action”. Katju has also asked Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to personally look into the matter.
Sonia completes 15 yrs at helms, sets record
New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has set a record of being longest serving party president by completing 15 years in office, said on Thursday that being at the helm was “not an easy task” and gave credit to the party’s rank and file in helping her accomplish the job. “It was not an easy task. But it was made possible due to your support and the love and affection of the grass root and ordinary workers which made the task easier and the credit goes to them”, 66-year-old Sonia told the leaders. She is currently in the fourth term of the Presidentship which expires in 2015.
MoEF deputy director held for taking bribe
New Delhi: Deputy Director of MoEF, Neeraj Khatri, arrested by the CBI with two others for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs7 lakh has been granted bail on Thursday. The bribe had been taken in lieu of environmental clearance granted to Odisha-based Chariot Steel and Power Pvt ltd for its Raiboga Mines at Birmitrapur in Sundargarh.
