2,000 sq mt land to Hema Malini's trust

The Maharashtra Government on Tuesday allotted a 2,000 sq meter plot of land to dancer-actress-turned MP Hema Malini’s organisation “Natyavihar Kala Kendra Charity Trust” for developing a cultural complex at Andheri’s Amboli locality in north Mumbai.

State Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse handed over a letter allotting the 2,000 sq meter plot of land to Hema Malini, at his Malbar Hills’ official residence.

Hema Malini had made a representation to the Maharashtra government way back in 1996 that she needed a plot of land to set up a cultural complex to promote classical music, arts and dances. Though she was allotted a plot of land by then Sena-BJP government, the plot thus allotted came under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and as a result, she could not develop it and approached the state Government for an alternate piece of land for her trust.

Having not received any positive response from the successive Congress governments in the past, she had recently taken up the matter with Khadse, who assured her  that he would look into the issue.

While allotting the plot of land to Hema Malini, the state government has laid down a few conditions for her trust: that while constructing the complex, the trust should develop a garden surrounding the complex, that the garden should be open to public and that the trust would not use the developed structure or land for commercial purpose.

After she fulfills the conditions laid down for allotment of the plot of land, the Suburban District Collector will issue a formal order to sanctioning the land to her.

Thanking the minister for expediting her pending representation seeking a plot of land for her trust, Hema Malini said, “I am very happy that I have received land allotment order today. I have to thank Khadse for taking interest in my project and clearing the allotment of land swiftly.”
