At least two jawans of the Assam Rifles were killed and six others were injured after suspected terrorists triggered a powerful blast at Chandel district of troubled Manipur on Monday, security forces said.
An Assam Rifles spokesman confirmed this on Monday and said that the blast went off at around 6:15 am at DC road when the AR personnel were passing through the area.
“Preliminary investigation indicated it to be an IED and we believe that it was triggered by a remote controlled device,” said the spokesman.
He said that while one of the soldiers were killed on the spot, the other breathed his last in the hospital.
“All the injured were shifted immediately to the military hospital at leimakhong by chopper. The condition of one of the injured was stated to be serious,” he said.
The place of occurrence is Mahamani village in Chandel district, located about 65 kms from Manipur’s capital Imphal. The Chandel district in Imphal shares international boundary between India and Myanmar.
