Two people including an Army jawan were injured in heavy Pakistan shelling along the line of Control in Poonch on Friday.

According to official sources, two back-to-back incidents of ceasefire violations were reported on Friday triggering panic among the local population.

In the first incident, Pakistan shelling lasted around 10 hours between 6 am to 4.30 pm in Balakote sector in which one 12th class student was injured along with one Army jawan.

Official sources further said, fresh firing in the Balakote sector was reported on Friday evening around 6.30 and was continuing till late evening.

Defence PRO (officiating) SN Acharaya said, “Pakistan Army resorted to ‘unprovoked’ firing in the Balakote sector of Poonch in which one army jawan was injured.

He said that Pakistan Army used 120 mm, 82 mm and 60 mm mortars to target the forward Indian posts in the area. Indian troops responded effectively using similar calibre of weapons, he added.

For last four days Pakistan Army has been regularly targeting the forward Indian posts and civilian areas in Poonch sector to provoke strong Indian retaliation.

Since September 2015 at least 24 incidents of ceasefire violations have been reported in the Poonch sector raising fresh concerns over the actual game plan of the Pak army concentrating in a particular sector.
