In what might remind the sensational Badaun gang-rape case in UP, police have recovered bodies of two school girls hanging from a tree in Assam’s Karimganj district, located close to the Indo-Bangladesh border in the district.
The bodies of the girls have been recovered on Thursday, police said adding that the locals suspect that the girls were first raped and then killed by the miscreants to cover it up. “The two girls were students of a local school and they were studying in Class IX and Class X,” police said while adding that investigation is on to find out the culprits. Both the girls had been missing from Wednesday evening. However, family members continued the search and they spotted both the girls hanging from a tree the next day on Thursday. The place from where the bodies were found is close to the International border between the India and Bangladesh. “We have sent the bodies for post-mortem and forensic tests,” police said. “Preliminary investigation revealed that it is not a suicide. Both the girls were hanged by two ends of one rope,” he said. Police, however, did not rule out the rape angle but said that only the post-mortem report can confirm this. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report from the Assam Medical College at Silchar,” he said. No one was, however, arrested till filing of the reports, police added.
