The task force of Patna police succeeded in rescuing two Delhi-based marble traders in the wee hours of Wednesday from the jungles of lakhisarai which is also known as den of Maoists.
The brothers Kapil Sharma and Suresh Sharma had been kidnapped for ransom on Friday the moment they came out of Patna airport. The abductors had demanded Rs4 crore as ransom from their father and South Delhi-based construction firm owner Babulal Sharma for their safe release.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaaj, who led the operation, said the gang of Ranjit Don was involved in this high profile abduction. Ranjit Don is also into politics and had contested Assembly elections. Police managed to arrest five culprits who were keeping the two brothers at gunpoint without food for four days.
Maharaaj said the traders were rescued from rugged Shringirishi Dham near Mahua Kol of Naxal affected Kajra and the arrested persons were being brought to Patna. Director General of Police PK Thakur said police were looking for the mastermind of the abduction. Sharma brothers, who are in their 40s said they were tortured by the abductors and not allowed to answer nature’s call and four-five people with guns were always with them.
Sharma brothers were lured to visit Patna by the abductors on the pretext of signing a Rs200 crore contract for supply of marble to IIT-Kharagpur. Earlier a Patna police team had been sent to Delhi where it questioned employees of the construction company owned by Babulal Sharma. One of the employees who hailed from Munger in Bihar provided some clues on the basis of which the task force reached lakahisarai.
When the police reached near the place where they were kept, the abductors attempted to inject them with sedatives but the two resisted their move.
