Three days after photos of Delhi Congress leaders having ‘Chhole Bhature’ during their fast, the ruling BJP found itself in an embarrassing situation on Thursday, as two of its MlAs from Pune were caught on camera eating snacks when their entire party was in the midst of a day-long fast led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two fasting BJP MlAs —identified as Bhimrao Tapkir from Khadakwasla constituency and Sanjay Bhegade alias Bala from Maval constituency — were seen eating sandwiches — during an official meeting called by Guaradian Minister to review the review of State Government's 'Jalyukt Shivar' scheme and the preparations for the Kharif season, at Pune’s old Council Hall.
A video of the meeting, which was recorded at 1 pm, showed Tapkir and Bhegade sitting next to each other and eating sandwiches from the plates served to them.. Before long, the video went viral on television channel and social media.
When contacted, the two MlAs admitted that they had inadvertently eaten a bit of snacks served to them as part of the protocol for the elected representatives and officials attending the meeting.
Quickly latching onto the issue served to his party on a platter by the BJP, Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan said that the “drama of fasting will not work anymore” as the people were no longer believed the “false promises” by the Narendra Modi Government.
