The annual Amarnath Yatra will take off on Saturday from one of the two routes in Kashmir Valley as security arrangements have been tightened in Kashmir Valley after the first batch entered the Valley on Friday afternoon. The yatra will commence from treacherous Baltal route as the Pahalgam trek is still under a thick layer of snow.
Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) — the independent agency that manages and regulates the annual pilgrimage — has announced that the logistics have been put in place at every point along the yatra routes with multi-layer security arrangements.
lt Gen Subrata Saha, who took over as Corps Commander of Srinagar-based XV Corps reviewed the security arrangements at Nilagrath, Sheshnag and Chandanwari and took stock of the arrangements made by Army for providing environmental security.. he was briefed by the Commanders on ground regarding the security arrangements, preparation and readiness to meet various contingencies. Saha interacted with various agencies deployed for the security of Yatra, a defence spokesman said.
This year’s yatra attains significance in the backdrop of change of guard in New Delhi after the end of 10-year UPA rule. During the UPA regime, the yatra duration was doubled to two months. This year’s yatra is scheduled for 45 days.
