In a crackdown on illegal borewells, the Gurgaon District Administration on Wednesday sealed 157 set-ups in various localities. FIRs were also registered against the owners of plots, where illegal borewells and pits were detected. A senior official of the District administration said a raiding team of 22 officials was set up for the drive.
Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon Shekhar Vidyarthi said action would be initiated against officer incharge if any illegal borewell has been found in his area. "Presently 22-member team is conducting the drive to check and dismantle illegal tubewells in the district and it will submit their reports every fortnight," he said.
Vidyarthi said administration will also ensure that builders or Developers did not use groundwater in construction and if it is detected officer incharge will be held responsible.
He said that in compliance with the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court, the builders and colonisers, who have obtained licence from the Town & Country Department, Haryana have been directed to make arrangement of recycled treated sewage water for construction purposes.
"HUDA department will keep a record of treated water taken by each builder from its Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and whether it was sufficient to meet its needs. HUDA and MCG will provide primary and secondary treated sewage water and the builder will have to finally treat it (Tertiary treatment) at the construction site before using it for construction purposes," Vidyarthi added. Earlier last year total 507 borewells — including pits were dismantled by the team.
