At least 12 people were killed and three others injured in a road mishap near the Kaziranga National Park in Assam’s Golaghat district on Sunday.
The accident took place around 4.30 am on Sunday as the speedy Tata Winger, on which the victims were travelling, collided with a heavily-loaded truck.
The Winger vehicle was on its way to Golaghat from lakhimpur district, police said.
Police blamed the rash driving and foggy weather for the incident.
Police said that the victims were returning to Ganakpukhuri village in Golaghat district after attending the ongoing Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha’s 84th session at Dhakuakhana in lakhimpur district.
“Altogether 15 people were in the vehicle. Twelve people, including five women, were killed and three others were injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital,” the sources said.
Although the driver of the Winger jumped to save his life, yet he was critically injured in the process.
