One soldier and three terrorists were killed and a civilian injured during a gun-battle that erupted at Aglar village of south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday evening, defence sources said.

The encounter triggered off when security forces cordoned off the village following information that militants were hiding in the area.

Superintendent of Police Pulwama Mohammad Aslam said that a soldier identified as Sham Sundar of 44 Rashtriya Rifles sustained serious bullet injuries during exchange of fire. He was immediately referred to 92 base hospital in Srinagar where he succumbed to injuries. A civilian Tariq Ahmad Bhat was also injured in the incident. Sources said clashes erupted between the locals and the security forces during the encounter. The authorities immediately snapped internet services in the area. The encounter was raging till then last reports came in from the area.

The encounter site is barely 10 kilometers from the spot where militants killed a policeman and injured another on November 4 at Rajpora. Police blamed Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e- Mohammad outfits for the attack.

Meanwhile, a BJP leader claimed his cavalcade was attacked by militants in Pulwama while coming back from the house of Gowhar Ahmad who was recently killed in Shopian. However, police said that stones were pelted at BJP leader's vehicle.
